MGK Day: An Afternoon To Remember

Mayor Bibb declared August 13 as Machine Gun Kelly Day in Cleveland, Ohio. Naturally, the city had to celebrate! Sunday, August 13 was filed with excitement, entertainment, joy, and laughter.

When I heard about the event, I thought the tickets would be astronomical. Come to find out, it’s actually a charity event to raise awareness and support Cleveland Metropolitan School District and Greater Cleveland Food Bank!

On the website, the ticket is free but there are options if you want to donate either money or school supplies!

When I first heard about the event, I already planned to attend because I’ve always been a fan of MGK’s music. This was the perfect opportunity to see him! I didn’t realize my dance studio was actually performing at the event! I was stoked but a little nervous.

When I arrived, I stood across the event around 1:13 P.M. I was confused on where the entrance was. Then, I saw a really big line and thought, “Yep, that must be it.”

Of course, a lot of people wore MGK shirts, merchandise, and jerseys. I love seeing people come together to support an artist!

Food trucks were lined up near the entrance. There were vendors selling clothes, alcohol, art, and I even saw people doing yoga! In the middle of the venue, there was a pink shaped heart statue with markers next to it. A lot of people were writing whatever their heart desired!

Near the statue, there was a spot you can take a photo of MGK’s face on a guitar case while you hold a pink guitar! Right next to that photo opportunity were free posters! I took one and it’s now my favorite poster!

The stage was pretty cool! There were DJ’s there to pump the crowd up and played so many songs such as “Till I Die” by the man himself, Machine Gun Kelly.

Machine Gun Kelly’s entrance was amazing! He rode on a motorcycle with a pink ski mask! There were a lot of motorcyclists behind him! The crowd went wild when he first arrived! He walked behind the stage. The group of people that were near the stage waiting for him, followed him when he walked towards the stage!

I performed at 3:15 P.M! We danced on the grass and it was a little muddy but I didn’t really care! It was an awesome experience! Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to stay to see him perform because my dad wanted to leave. I lived vicariously through my friends’ Instagram Story instead. When I got home, I played more of MGK’s music so it worked out!

I never thought as an adult, I would have the courage to go back to dance class again. I was nervous to start again because it’s been so long since I’ve been in a dance class. I thought, “Everyone here is so much better.” I did compare myself but, I’ve learned to not compare. There’s always going to be someone much better than you. In order to grow, you need to know what YOU can do. Not what OTHERS can do. I started out drinking coffee and eating at 27 Club Coffee when it first opened, next thing I knew, I’m dancing at MGK day. Life is wild.
